Nano Alumina Powder

Nano alumina is a high-purity ceramic nanomaterial known for its exceptional hardness, chemical inertness, thermal stability, and very high surface area, which enhances reactivity and performance even at low dosages.

Typical Characteristics

  • Particle size: 10–80 nm
  • Surface area: ~100–300 m²/g

Key Benefits

  • Improves abrasion and scratch resistance
  • Densifies materials by filling micro-voids
  • Enhances thermal and UV stability
  • Promotes faster reactions in cement systems
  • Provides stable dispersion in coatings

Applications:
Widely used in cementitious materials (concrete) and in paints & protective coatings to improve strength, durability, and weather resistance.

Nano-alumina functions as both a hydration accelerator and an ultra-fine nano-filler in cement systems. Its high surface area provides numerous nucleation sites, promoting rapid formation of strength-giving hydrates. It also reacts with calcium hydroxide to form additional stable phases, producing a denser and more durable microstructure. The nano-sized particles further fill capillary pores, significantly reducing porosity and permeability.

Typical Dosage:0.5–3 wt.% of cement weight (higher levels may cause particle agglomeration and reduced performance)

Performance Benefits:

  • Faster setting and higher early strength
  • Improved long-term compressive strength
  • Reduced water absorption and permeability
  • Enhanced resistance to chloride ingress and abrasion
  • Better freeze–thaw durability
  • Improved fire resistance at elevated temperatures

Recommended Use
For best results, disperse nano-alumina in mixing water (preferably with a dispersant or superplasticizer) before adding to cement to ensure uniform distribution.

Typical Applications
High-performance concrete, bridge structures, marine construction, industrial flooring, rapid repair materials, and other durability-critical infrastructure.

Nano-alumina serves as a high-performance reinforcement additive in coating systems. The nanoparticles disperse within the polymer matrix to create a dense protective network that enhances mechanical strength and acts as an effective barrier against environmental attack. This results in coatings with superior durability, surface protection, and long-term performance.

Typical Loading
0.5–2 wt.% of total formulation

Performance Benefits

  • Significantly improved scratch and abrasion resistance
  • Increased surface hardness
  • Enhanced corrosion protection through reduced moisture and oxygen penetration
  • Improved UV stability and weather durability
  • Better gloss retention over time
  • Higher resistance to water and chemicals

Specialized Functions

  • Anti-corrosion coatings: Protect metal substrates by limiting permeation of corrosive agents
  • Heat-resistant coatings: Maintain stability at elevated temperatures
  • Self-cleaning surfaces: Promote easier dirt removal
  • Anti-wear coatings: Suitable for machinery, pipelines, marine, and industrial applications

Nano-alumina enables the development of protective coatings that remain durable, functional, and visually stable even in harsh operating conditions.
